Yesterday we went to Natureland Zoo to give their two male kea some enrichment toys! It was a KCC (Kiwi Conservaion Club is a group for children) group event/outing. The two kea, Bruce and Jake, loved the toys! Mine was the first to be attacked! Bruce is about 30 years older than Jake, the one legged kea from Nelson Lakes. The two are great friends now! There are lots of other animals at Natureland Zoo, including Red-Fronted and Yellow-Fronted Kakariki, for a release program in to Abel Tasman |
They also have a walk in aviary which is my favourate part! It houses various parrots, New Zealand Scaup, and some ground dwellers like Diamond Dove.
But my favourate bird in there is a Corella. She/he is white, slightly dirty, umm has bare skin around his eye, etc. But I think he is great! He sits staring at passers by and some people he climbs on!(See video below, very funny!) He let me pat him but then told me to stop (no he did not speak, but I'm pretty sure he wanted no more touching). The hand rail serves as a good path way for him!
