Last Saturday, I attended the Birds New Zealand Council meeting at Wellington Airport, to do a presentation about getting young people into OSNZ with another YBNZ team member, George Hobson writer of birdingaroundwellington.blogspot.co.nz.
The meeting lasted all day, so George and I did a bit of birding at Zealandia before the talk (The other council members wanted to come, but they had stuff to do).

Zealandia is a Pest-free sanctuary in Wellington City. Species such as Little Spotted Kiwi, Red-Crowned Kakariki, North Island Stitchbird, and South Island Takahe have been introduced making it a great place to boost my H.A.B.Y score (Half-a-Big-Year Competition the YBNZ team are having. I'm winning on 79 species)
First birds we saw were North Island Kaka, California Quail, two duck species, and Pied Shag. We also heard a Eastern Rosella which was a life bird for me!
Of course the feeders were good places to get shots of most species, so a fair bit of time was spent standing at them.
There are two man-made lakes in Zealandia, supporting birds such as Brown Teal, Pied and Little Shags, New Zealand Scaup and a lone New Zealand Dabchick (Not observed by me yet)
The trip to Zealandia was great, especially as I can not see birds such as Stitchbird nor North Island Robin in the South Island.
About the meeting, I don't really have any shots of it. Our presentation went quite well (for a first try...) and much of the meeting was interesting. Sadly I did not see any Banded Dotterels or recently reported weird waders in front of the airport.
Note: I have not finished editing the shots yet,
