Went down to the on Saturday. There was 7 Black-billed Gulls, which was a nice surprise!
We did part of the Lake Side Track, which obviously runs along side the lake! I could hear Bellbirds and Tuis, as well as bird flocks including Brown Creeper, Silvereye or Grey Warbler. There was also New Zealand Fantails fluttering around in places catching insects. I did hear two South Island Robins singing.
Also I was pleased to hear the Chaffinches again!

As we walked along the tracks, I went down to the shore of the lake. Then I saw a Little Pied Shag far away around the bend, but I noticed one closer. I decided to try and sneak up on him to get some pics. As soon as he pop-ed out of the water I would sit down, when he went under, I would run again. I got close enough for some less than OK shots but he was really cool to watch! |
